Sixers shopping Iguodala

Andre IguodalaAfter Philadelphia made it to the post-season in 2008-09, the franchise’s front-office was hoping to continue pushing forward in this year’s NBA campaign. After all, former All-Star Elton Brand was finally back from a lengthy knee injury and looked like a great addition to the 76ers’ front-court. Yet, things did not go as planned and Philly finds itself at the bottom of the league with a disappointing 16-31 record.

Thus, it is no surprise that the Sixers are looking to make some changes before the trade deadline in February. However, it is somewhat strange that the team appears to be willing to move franchise centerpiece Andre Iguodala who has been playing very well throughout the year. In 47 appearances, the 6-6 guard-forward averages 17.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.9 steals per contest. According to sources close to Philadelphia’s management, any deal featuring Iguodala would however include Samuel Dalembert as well. While there are numerous teams interested in the services of Iguodala, Dalembert is certainly more difficult to trade. Most importantly, Dalembert is still under contract until 2010-11 and will earn no less than $12 million next year. Considering that he is a fairly one dimensional player and has little offense to offer, it is understandable that most teams are not overly excited about acquiring him. Likewise, the Sixers are facing the same problem when it comes to forward-center Elton Brand. Even though Brand has been putting up 14.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, he has still $50 million on his contract which runs through 2012-13. That said, it appears to be a justified assumption that his numbers might go up if the Sixers manage to move either Dalembert or Iguodala.
