Warriors add more low post depth
More specifically, GM Larry Riley traded the Italian shooting guard Marco Belinelli to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for veteran forward Devean George. Likewise, Jamal Crawford was sent to the Atlanta Hawks in a rather questionable trade that landed Acie Law and Speedy Claxton in Oakland. While it remains to be seen whether the aforementioned moves will work out for the Warriors, they were finally able to add a serviceable player earlier this week. According to Golden State’s front office the franchise signed veteran forward-center Mikki Moore to a one-year contract. Moore has proven to be a solid rotation player over the past 11 years for the Seattle Super Sonics, Los Angeles Clippers, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings, Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks and New Jersey Nets. In 2008-09 he was able to put up 3.9 points and pulled down 3.7 rebounds in just 17.2 minutes per contest. Although these numbers may not be that impressive one should take into consideration that he will most likely see more playing time in Don Nelson’s up-tempo system.
Furthermore, Mikki Moore can be expected to mentor the Warriors’ young low-post players Anthony Randolph and Brendan Wright. Despite their raw talent neither of them has yet fully developed his game, thus Moore might be a valuable addition to aid their progress. Even though no salary figures have been made public, Moore’s deal is estimated to be around the veteran minimum. Taking everything into consideration Riley’s move does indeed make sense for the Warriors and could help the struggling franchise to make it to the playoffs for just the second time in the last 15 years.
