Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks Complete Blockbuster Deal
The Wizards will be receiving Gooden, Ross, Singleton, and Howard in a deal that sees them start off on a path towards rebuilding in a cost cutting move. The money saving move will allow the Wizards to move on and also means that they will probably look to trade Antwan Jamison as well.
For the Mavericks, this move is a clear indication that they are going for it at all this year and really makes them a team that can compete with the best in the league, such as the L.A. Lakers. The addition of Haywood gives the team a banger on the inside and Butler is an exciting, establish veteran who has the ability to score every time he has his hands on the ball. Stevenson has shown ability in his years in the NBA, but was mostly packaged in the deal as another way for the Wiz to cut costs, and it was paramount that the Mavs took on his contract if they were serious about getting Haywood.
With Howard and Gooden becoming free agents at the end of the year, the Wizard will have a lot of wiggle room in the offseason to tamper with the team and figure out what move to make next with the issues surrounding Gilbert Arenas.
Keep your eye on the Mavericks as Butler`s 16.9 point and 6.7 rebound average will be a huge boost to guys like Dirk Nowitzki, and Haywood`s 10.3 rebounds per game will give the team a huge boost off the bench.
For Dallas, this move could also be a sign that they are looking to trade away Erick Dampier before the trade deadline comes about.
