Being one of the favorites to win it all at the 2009 FIBA Eurobasket the Spanish national team is under considerable pressure to perform well in their round-robin games. Thus, Spain will face Slovenia on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. GMT in the last game of Group C.

Without any doubts anything else than a win for Spain would be a huge upset. More specifically, the Spanish team features immense depth at nearly every position and will be a very tough challenge for the Slovenians. However, it should be mentioned that Spain will miss their starting point-guard Jose Calderon from the Toronto Raptors who is still out with a hand injury. Moreover, All-Star Pau Gasol from the Los Angeles Lakers will most likely be a game time decision as he is still banged up from a minor injury. But even without the aforementioned key players the Spanish team is still an extremely dangerous opponent to face. Featuring excellent players such as Ricky Rubio Rudy Fernandez, Juan Carlos Navarro and Marc Gasol the Spaniards feel very comfortable competing for another Eurobasket title.

Slovenia on the other hand will have to overcome various problems going into this year’s FIBA Eurobasket. Unfortunately, for the team of head coach Jure Zdovc point guard Beno Udrih from the Sacramento Kings broke two fingers in the squad’s last friendly game before the tournament. Furthermore, team captain Matjaz Smodiš is not healthy either and might be forced to remain on the bench. Nonetheless, Slovenia will be able to field their NBA stars Primoz Brezec from the Philadelphia 76ers and Goran Dragic' from the Phoenix Suns. Although it appears to be rather unlikely that the Slovenian squad will get away with a win, the game might be one of the more difficult tasks for the Spaniards.
