China v Russia Live
After a fifth place finish at the 2008 Olympics, China is hoping to continue their upswing at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Thus, the Chinese squad will face Timofey Mozgov and the Russian side in Ankara on Wednesday at 1 p.m. GMT.
Even though the Russians had to start the tournament without their best player Viktor Khryapa, Timofey Mozgov and company had no problems overcoming Puerto Rico in the first game of Group B. Especially forward Sergey Monya had a great game putting up 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Similarly, the squad of coach David Blatt showed a tremendous amount of teamwork, recording a total of 21 assists compared to just 9 turnovers. However, the next game does not look any easier and will most likely require another strong performance by the Russians to secure a win versus China.
After all, the team around Yi Jianlian from the Washington Wizards surprised many fans with an excellent opening game versus the favorites from Greece. Albeit the Greek team got away with a 89-81 win, China showed that even without NBA All-Star Yao Ming they are still a very competitive team that should not be underestimated at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Especially the aforementioned Yi Jianlian showcased some excellent basketball, scoring no less than 26 points while grabbing 14 rebounds. Also noteworthy is that China turned the ball over just 10 times which is certainly remarkable considering that Greece is one of the best defensive teams. Taking everything into account, the audience can expected a highly contested ball game when the game between Russia and China gets underway on Wednesday afternoon.
