France v Canada Live
Being in a very tough group that also features Spain and Lithuania, France is hoping to not only advance to the elimination stage but also put themselves in a good position as far as subsequent matchups are concerned. Thus, Boris Diaw and the French national team will be looking for a win when they take on Canada on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. GMT.
Considering that former MVP and NBA All-Star Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns will not be playing for Canada this summer, hardly anyone is expecting much from the squad of coach Leo Rautins. However, the Canadians do indeed have some talented players on their roster, such as Samuel Dalembert from the Sacramento Kings and Andy Rautins from the New York Knicks. Moreover, forward-center Joel Anthony from the Miami Heat has been improving by leaps and bounds and will provide Canada with a solid player in the low-post area. Likewise, the team also features two experienced guards as Carl English from Joventud Badalona and Jermaine Anderson from Cedevita Zagreb were a substantial part of the Canadian team that qualified for the 2010 FIBA World Championship with a fourth place finish at the FIBA Americas tournament last year.
France on the other hand will once again compete with a very shorthanded squad as All-Star guard Tony Parker from the San Antonio Spurs will take the summer off. Likewise, combo-guard Rodrigue Beaubois from the Dallas Mavericks recently broke his foot and will not be playing either. To make things even worse, other NBA players such as Mickael Pietrus, Ronny Turiaf, Johan Petro and Joakim Noah are also unable to participate. Therefore, Boris Diaw from the Charlotte Bobcats and guard Nicolas Batum from the Portland Trail Blazers will lead the French side at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and will most likely have to carry the team throughout the tournament. However, even with the aforementioned injuries, France should still have a slight edge over the Canadians and could very well secure another win when the game gets underway on Tuesday afternoon.
