Germany v Argentina Live
Where as Germany is one of the youngest teams in the entire tournament, the Argentine squad is hoping that their NBA veterans will be able to guide coach Sergio Hernandez's squad to another medal. Thus, Andres Nocioni and the Argentine national team will face Germany in the opening game of Group A on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. GMT.
Without any doubts, the game between Argentina and Germany could very well have been one of the more exciting matchups at the 2010 FIBA World Championship if both teams would be at full strength. However, the German squad will be without former MVP Dirk Nowitzki and NBA All-Star Chris Kaman. Considering that coach Dirk Bauerman's team has no other NBA legionnaires or Euroleague stars to count on, things will most likely be rather difficult in Turkey. That said, it should be mentioned that the German national team features various promising prospects such as center Tibor Pleiss who was recently drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder and Elias Harris who has been playing two years of NCAA basketball for Gonzaga University. Likewise, the team around Jan-Hendrik Jagla surprised many experts when they beat Turkey and Puerto Rico in exhibition games before the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
Similarly, Argentina will enter the tournament without former NBA All-Star Manu Ginobili who opted to take it easy this summer in order to be fully ready for the upcoming NBA campaign. Likewise, the Argentine squad also lost Juan Pablo Cantero who suffered an injury in a preparation match versus Spain earlier this month. However, the South American nation will still be able to field a very competitive squad as Andres Nocioni from the Philadelphia 76ers, Carlos Delfino from the Milwaukee Bucks as well as Luis Scola from the Houston Rockets will constitute one of the better starting fives in the tournament. Yet, it remains to be seen whether Argentina's roster will be deep enough to compete with other contenders down the stretch, most importantly the United States and Spain. Either way, fans around the world can expect a highly entertaining ball game when the 2010 FIBA World Championship get underway on Saturday night.
