Unlike Serbia, Australia did not get off to a particularly good start at this year's FIBA World Championship as they struggled significantly in their opening game versus Jordan. However, coach Brett Brown's squad ultimately managed to secure a narrow 76-75 win with a crucial run in the last minutes of the game. While Australia's performance was from impressive, the team around Patrick Mills from the Portland Trail Blazers did showcase a solid effort in the low-post area. More precisely, center David Andersen from the Toronto Raptors was able to post 22 points and 9 rebounds where as Aleks Maric from Panathinaikos BC recorded 23 points and 9 boards. Nonetheless, the Aussies will most likely have to play more consistently to make it to the elimination round, especially their three point shooting left much to be desired.

Serbia on the other hand had no trouble in their opening game versus Angola and clinched a very convincing 94-44 blow-out win. Even though Nenad Krstic from the Oklahoma City Thunder was sidelined by a three-game suspension, coach Dusan Ivkovic team dominated Angola at both ends of the floor. Especially Aleksandar Rasic from Partizan Belgrade showed an excellent performance as the 6-4 combo guard put up 22 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds. However, Australia will certainly be a more difficult and should be able to make things more difficult for Serbia. Even though the Serbs are arguably the better overall team, Patrick Mills and company can very well stay within striking distance if they play up to their potential.
