Serbia v Germany Live
After an unforeseen gold medal at the 2009 FIBA Eurobasket, Serbia suddenly finds itself under significant pressure to repeat their success at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Thus, Serbia will face Tibor Pleiss and the German national team on Sunday at 4 p.m. GMT.
Where as Serbia is hoping to clinch a medal down the stretch, there are very few expectations coming Germany way. After all, coach Dirk Bauermann's squad is playing without Dirk Nowitzki from the Dallas Mavericks and Chris Kaman from the Los Angeles Clippers and has very few players who are playing for European top teams. Nonetheless, Germany does have some young players who could blossom into excellent players in the not too distant future. More precisely, Tibor Pleiss from the Oklahoma City Thunder and Elias Harrias from Gonzaga University could surprise basketball fans with their performance. Likewise, Germany was able to secure two straight wins versus Puerto Rico this week, including one 97-74 blow-out.
Serbia on the other hand is just coming off a exhibition game versus Greece that ended in a brawl on the court which featured Nenad Krstic from the Oklahoma City Thunder throwing chairs at Greek players. While it remains to be seen what sanctions the FIBA will hand out, the Serbian squad will certainly have to calm down a notch for their encounter with the German national team. After all, the team has plenty of talent such as Nemanja Bjelica from the Washington Wizards and Marko Keselj from Euroleague powerhouse Olympiacos BC. Thus, Serbia will most likely have an edge over the young German team due to their international experience and solid perimeter shooting. Yet, coach Dusan Ivkovic squad should not underestimate Elias Harris and company as they are certainly capable of pulling off an upset on a good night.
