Slovenia v Spain Live
While some teams are missing key NBA players, Slovenia and Spain will be able to send very competitive squads to the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey next month. Thus, Ricky Rubio and company will face the Slovene national team in a FIBA friendly on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. GMT.
Even though Slovenia is one of the smallest basketball nations participating in the 2010 FIBA World Championship, there is no doubt that the team around Goran Dragic will be a very tough opponent to overcome. Albeit playing without Beno Udrih from the Sacramento Kings, the Slovenes will be able to count on Dragic to run the team at the point guard position. Being one of the most promising young guards in the NBA, Goran Dragic is coming off a very successful season with the Phoenix Suns that culminated in a Western Conference Finals appearance. Likewise, Primo Brezec from the Milwaukee Bucks can be expected to provide Slovenia with a solid front-court presence at both ends of the floor.
Spain on the other hand is one of the favorites to clinch another medal at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Arguably the only team able to give the United States a run for their money, Pau Gasol and the Spaniards are hoping to win it all in Turkey this year. Fielding a team made up almost entirely of NBA players, Spain will most likely have little trouble finding the basket. Especially Pau Gasol from the Los Angeles Lakers, Marc Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies, Rudy Fernandez from the Portland Trailblazers and Jose Calderon from the Toronto Raptors can be expected to put a lot of pressure on Slovenia's defense while Ricky Rubio and Juan Carlos Navarro will provide Spain with even more scoring off the bench.
